USA has a long tradition of supporting female sports teams. Biney, Schmitt or Edwards are just a few examples of female athletes who have made a name for themselves in the world of sports. However, despite all these women's sports team victories, there are some female athletes that deserve special recognition. Let's look at some of the more notable ones. Biney

Maame Biney, an American short track speedskater, won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the Women's Short Track competition. She was part of the short track competition at PyeongChang's 2018 Winter Olympics. Biney's incredible performance has sparked worldwide interest. Here are some things to know about Biney. She is a champion who is determined and will win the greatest competitions in the globe.

Schmitt

Allison Schmitt, one the most decorated female athletes in America, spoke out about her struggle with depression. After the 2012 Olympic Games, she was dropped from the national team as well as the world championships. She also struggled to cope with depression. She went into depression. She was unable to compete in the 2016 Olympic trials. It was her determination to get back in the pool that paid off and she became again the US Olympic swimming champion.

Vollmer

Dana Whitney Vollmer is an Olympic gold medalist five times and a former world record holder at the swimming competition. She won the 2004 Summer Olympics gold medal in swimming and set a record for the event. She was awarded the Olympic bronze gold medal and the Olympic bronze silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. As a former college swimmer, Vollmer has been training for years in order to be a world-class athlete. Here are five reasons Vollmer has been so successful:


Joyner-Kersee

Jacqueline Joyner Kersee (USA) is a former track and field athlete. She won four Olympic gold medals, three gold, two bronze, and two silver. She is one of the all-time greats in the long jump and the heptathlon. She was awarded the 1984 Olympic long jump title. Joyner-Kersee also won silver in the long leap in 1996.

Evans

Aja L. Evans, a bobsledder, is an Olympic medalist for Team USA. She is also a brakeman on bobsled. She was raised in Chicago where she was an All-American shotputter and a track-and-field City Champion. Evans won a shot-put title at the University of Illinois and was an All American in track and field. After joining the 2012 bobsled team, Evans was able to perform at the Olympics.

Voisin

Maggie Voisin from the United States is a female Olympic athlete. After sustaining a leg fracture, she missed the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. She returned to competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics, but missed the podium after suffering a torn left ACL. Voisin has been out of competition for eight year due to her injury.

Retton

Retton served as a member in 2004 of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The organization was established by the U.S. to promote physical activity and encourage Americans all ages to engage in sport. The United States Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Public Health and Science has the council. Retton assisted in dropping the bill's sponsor, even though it was not made into law.
