Later, she won the Under-21 Championship and the state championship with her local team, Braddock Road bluebelles. She also played college soccer at William and Mary University and was named an All-American. Ellis won accolades for her coaching work, even though she was only 20 years old when she played.
Ellis has extensive sports management experience, in addition to her many years of coaching. Ellis has held numerous leadership positions, including the United States Soccer Federation Development Director. She was also an assistant coach for U.S. women’s national team, and coached women's youth soccer teams. Ellis was the interim head coach of women's senior national team. She was the interim coach for two matches in 2014. In 2014, Ellis received a USSF Pro coaching licensure.
