While the United States has yet to beat Sweden, the first-half scoring made it very interesting. Carli Lloyd (Christen Press) scored a goal each, while Anna Anvegard (Sweden) scored two goals. Both were named to the Olympic team. They have combined for eight goals across 19 matches.

The United States women’s football team beat Sweden 2-1 to begin the World Cup. The Americans played the match with a strong attacking strategy, centered in the Swedish half of the field. They put pressure in the middlefield and created several great chances, two of which were in the first period. But it's not over for the Americans. Morgan Brian sustained injuries in the first-half when she challenged a Swedish defense and went down. Anna-Marie Keighley (Sweden's goalkeeper) was unable to stop it.

Jonathan Lekkerimaki, a skilled winger, projects to be a top six forward in the NHL. He is a strong skimmer with great vision and a wrist shot. Lekkerimaki was a top scorer for Sweden at the World Under-18 Championship last spring. He recently scored against Canada. While the game wasn't televised at all, a replay on the jumbotron of his goal was shown.

Davidson, who plays professionally with the Chicago Red Stars made her World Cup debut 16 month after they were crowned World Cup champions. She was a key part of the team as a US Women's National Team player.
Stina Blackstenius
Stina Blackstenius scored twice for Sweden in their first game against the U.S., putting the US on the back foot. While her first goal was an unfortunate accident, she was also a crucial part of the dominant Swedish effort. Sweden is the world champions and knocked out the Americans in the 2016 Olympics. Sweden was tied at 2-2 in Stockholm with the Americans, but managed to beat the Americans in Tokyo by a score of 4-0. Blackstenius's goals against world champions proved that Sweden is not to underestimate, despite all odds.
