Sue Bird, Seattle Storm guard, has been selected as the 2022 WNBA All-Star Game's starting point. Bird is a career assists leader and a four-time WNBA champion. Her selection makes her a tenth-old record, one fewer than Tamikacatchings's 11. A'ja and Breanna Wilson, Seattle Storm teammates and WNBA All-Stars, were also selected for the game. Sue Bird is retiring from the league after the 2022 season.

After considering all options, Bird decided to go with UConn due to its close proximity and winning tradition. Bird was a member of the team for four world championships. She also won twice the WNBA's Player-of-the Year award. Perhaps her greatest contribution to the sport was on the international stage.
