Later, she won the Under-21 Championship and the state championship with her local team, Braddock Road bluebelles. She also played college soccer at William and Mary University and was named an All-American. Ellis' playing days were in her twenties. However, she earned recognition as a coach.
Ellis has extensive experience as a coach and in sports management. Ellis has held numerous leadership positions, including the United States Soccer Federation Development Director. She also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. women's national team and coached women's youth teams. Ellis was made interim head coach of senior women's national team in 2012. She served as interim coach during two matches in 2014, and is licensed by the USSF Pro to coach.
