Jill Ellis created a mentoring program for women soccer coaches. As president of the San Diego Wave FC team, which is the newest member in the National Women's Soccer League, she also serves. She will share her expertise and insights on building a cohesive community and motivating individuals to work towards a common goal.


Ellis spent the last year working hard to create the program and raise donations. The money she raises will go towards funding promising women coaches who would otherwise be unable to afford expensive licensing programs. Mentors will be assigned for the women and will help them to build their professional networks. It is expected that around three dozen women will be sponsored by the program in its first-year.

Jill Ellis came from a country where girls weren't allowed to play competitive soccer. Her mother, Margaret, was against her daughter's participation in the sport. It was considered inappropriate to play soccer at that time. She moved to Virginia when she was 17 to play soccer, and she also led her high school soccer team towards a state championship.

Jill Ellis has been coaching for more than twenty years. She has a USSF Pro coaching license. As a young girl, Ellis played soccer for Robinson Secondary School, Fairfax, Virginia. Later, she won the Under-21 Championship and the state championship with her local team, Braddock Road bluebelles. She also played college soccer at William and Mary University and was named an All-American. Ellis' playing days were in her twenties. However, she earned recognition as a coach.

Ellis has extensive experience as a coach and in sports management. Ellis has held numerous leadership positions, including the United States Soccer Federation Development Director. She also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. women's national team and coached women's youth teams. Ellis was made interim head coach of senior women's national team in 2012. She served as interim coach during two matches in 2014, and is licensed by the USSF Pro to coach.
